Product Overview
The SML-8168B is a switch-free, no-delay two-piece smart network cable tester for structured cabling, low-voltage maintenance, network maintenance, and security wiring inspection. Wire mapping starts when the cable ends are connected to the main and remote units. The 1-8 and G indicators show wire order, opens, shorts, miswiring, and shield continuity on network and telephone cables.

Use and Safety Limits
For wire mapping, connect the cable ends to the main and remote units. This model provides no test function when connected to a non-PoE or standards-compliant PoE switch. Never connect the remote unit while the cable is connected to a switch.
The tester does not identify the switch category or PoE type. If the category cannot be confirmed, treat it as a non-standard PoE switch and disconnect the switch and its power first. A non-standard PoE switch is covered only by the nominal 60 V burnout protection; test functions are unavailable and their results must not be used. The 60 V value is a nominal protection rating, not a normal operating voltage or PoE-detection capability. Do not connect the tester to mains power, high-voltage wiring, or a circuit of unknown voltage.
