SML-8168P Smart Network Cable Tester
For wire mapping, RJ45/RJ11 checks within 10 cm of the connector, and port location on non-PoE or standards-compliant PoE switches.

- Complete wire mapping with the main and remote units
- RJ45/RJ11 single-ended testing covers the near-end area up to 10 cm from the inserted connector
- Single-ended testing and switch-port flashing on non-PoE or standards-compliant PoE switches
A USB Type-C rechargeable smart network cable tester combining wire mapping, RJ45/RJ11 single-ended near-end checks, and switch-port flashing.
Product Overview
The SML-8168P combines complete wire mapping, RJ45/RJ11 single-ended near-end checks, and switch-port flashing in one USB Type-C rechargeable smart network cable tester. Its three physical switch positions are port flash, cable test, and OFF/single-ended. The cable test position is used for wire mapping with the main and remote units. The OFF/single-ended position selects single-ended testing. The OFF/single-ended label does not indicate that the tester is powered off. The port flash position locates a target port on a non-PoE or standards-compliant PoE switch.
Single-ended testing uses only the main unit, not the remote. It covers the near-end area up to 10 cm from the inserted connector and does not limit the total cable length, but it cannot replace complete wire mapping for wire order and remote continuity. During switch-port flashing, the connected switch port flashes about once every 3 seconds.
The built-in 3.7 V / 800 mAh lithium battery charges from a 5 V / 1 A USB Type-C supply in approximately 1 hour and supports use while charging. The red work indicator is on during single-ended testing or switch-port flashing, and the yellow charging indicator is on while charging. Before the battery is full, the red work and yellow charging indicators may be on at the same time during use while charging; the yellow indicator turns off when charging is complete.

Use and Safety Limits
For wire mapping, connect the cable ends to the main and remote units. When connected to a non-PoE or standards-compliant PoE switch, use only the applicable single-ended or switch-port-flash position, connect only the main unit, and do not use the remote. The tester does not identify the switch category or PoE type. If the category cannot be confirmed, treat it as a non-standard PoE switch and disconnect the switch and its power first. A non-standard PoE switch is covered only by the nominal 60 V burnout protection; test functions are unavailable and their results must not be used.
The 60 V value is a nominal protection rating, not a normal operating voltage or PoE-detection capability. Use only an undamaged USB Type-C cable and a 5 V / 1 A power source. The built-in lithium battery must not be disassembled or replaced by the user. Stop testing and charging and disconnect external connections if the tester becomes wet, damaged, unusually hot, or emits an unusual odor. Do not connect it to mains power, high-voltage wiring, or a circuit of unknown voltage.
