Product Overview

The SML-TS is the classic network cable tracer in the SML-TS Series and consists of a transmitter and receiver. Standard and anti-interference modes cover routine cabling as well as electrically noisy locations around switches and patch panels. Remote wire mapping identifies wire order, continuity, shorts, and miswiring. With the alligator-clip adapter, the transmitter also provides qualitative indication of DC level, polarity, and ringing on low-voltage lines.

Typical Applications

  • Locating target network cables at patch panels, switches, and cable rooms
  • Tracing network, telephone, shielded network, and four-core cables
  • Remote network-cable wire-order and continuity checks
  • Tracing metallic two-core low-voltage lines and checking polarity and ringing status

Use and Safety Limits

The line voltage must not exceed 60 V during powered tracing. Perform ordinary remote cable mapping only on a de-energized line. Remote mapping through a switch port supports ordinary switches and standards-compliant PoE switches; it does not support non-standard PoE switches that directly output 48 V. Use the alligator clips only on communications and low-voltage circuits. Never connect the tester to mains power, high-voltage wiring, or a circuit of unknown voltage.

Features

  • Standard and anti-interference cable-tracing modes
  • Remote network-cable mapping for wire order, continuity, shorts, and miswiring
  • Traces energized switch and PoE lines at up to 60 V
  • Traces telephone, shielded network, four-core, and metallic two-core cables
  • Adjustable sensitivity with automatic work-area illumination
