SML-200R crimps modular plugs for network and telephone cables and cuts compatible communication cable. It has 8P and 6P dies, a force-saving holding mechanism, and a side release control.
Product Overview
The SML-200R crimps modular plugs for network and telephone cables, cuts compatible communication cable, and trims cable ends. It has crimping dies marked 8P and 6P, together with a force-saving holding mechanism and a side release control to retain the position reached or open the tool during cutting and crimping. Check that the cable, plug, and die match before choosing a setup.
Main Functions
Modular Plug Crimping
Use the crimping dies to terminate network or telephone cable with a matching modular plug. Select the corresponding die using the 8P and 6P markings on the tool. The same number of positions or a similar shape does not guarantee compatibility; do not force a plug into a die.
Arrange the conductors in the required order, straighten them, and trim the ends evenly before loading the plug. Check that each conductor reaches its intended position and that the outer jacket enters the plug’s retention area, rather than securing only individual conductors. The plug must face the correct way and sit squarely and fully in the die. After crimping, inspect the contacts, conductor order and seating, and jacket retention. If alignment or retention is incorrect, check compatibility and positioning, and replace the plug and terminate again if needed.
Cable Cutting
Cutting brings compatible communication cable to length and trims its ends in preparation for termination. Choose the cut position for the required length and keep the cable and tool steady while cutting. Afterwards, check that the cable is fully severed and the end is even, without obvious slanting or splaying. A partial cut is not a finished result. If a cable is removed partway through a cut, inspect it for damage before deciding how to trim it further.
Force-Saving Hold and Mid-Operation Release
If cutting or crimping is unfinished, pausing the squeezing action leaves the tool holding the position reached; it does not spring open on its own. This is normal holding and should not by itself be treated as a jam. To open the tool mid-operation, steady the tool and workpiece and operate the side release control to disengage the hold, allowing the tool to spring open. Remove or adjust the plug or cable only after the tool is open and no longer grips it. Release only disengages the hold: it does not mean cutting or crimping is complete or that the workpiece meets quality requirements.
Typical Applications
Applications include making network patch cords, terminating telephone plugs, and trimming cable or replacing plugs during installation and maintenance of de-energized communication lines. Cut cable to length, trim its ends, and crimp matching plugs as the job requires, checking each result against the cable and plug requirements.
Usage Notes
Disconnect the cable from all equipment and power sources before work. Verify that an unknown circuit is de-energized, and confirm that the cable, plug, and tool match. Do not cut steel wire, steel cable, nails, or other hard materials. Keep fingers clear of blades, dies, handle pinch points, and the tool’s opening path during release. Stop using the tool if parts are abnormal, resistance is unusual, or release fails; do not pull the workpiece free, force the handles apart, or apply more pressure.
Use a suitable stripping tool to remove the outer jacket. Check finished assemblies for continuity and conductor order with separately provided test equipment matched to the cable. Visual inspection does not replace electrical testing. See the user manual in Downloads for detailed procedures, result checks, and routine care.
